At the official invitation of the President of the United Nations General Assembly to deliver a keynote address:
His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Iissa, the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, arrived today at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where he delivered the keynote address on behalf of the Muslim peoples on the occasion of the commemoration of the #InternationalDayToCombatIslamophobia. This marked the first celebration of its kind in the history of the United Nations, following the adoption of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly.
His Excellency Dr. Al-Issa then held a bilateral discussion session at the organization's headquarters with His Excellency Mr. Philomon Yang, the President of the General Assembly. During this meeting, the President of the Assembly expressed his pleasure in inviting Dr. Al-Issa to deliver the keynote address at this significant and unprecedented international celebration.
The invitation extended to His Eminence, the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, to deliver the keynote address at this inaugural event at the United Nations Headquarters underscores the MWL’s significant international influence and the great respect and appreciation it holds worldwide.
This invitation also comes in recognition of the MWL’s impact in combating Islamophobia, as well as hate speech and practices in general, through its wise, continuous, and influential approach.
Speeches were then delivered by delegations of UN member states, speaking on behalf of their governmental institutions' efforts to combat hatred in general and Islamophobia in particular.
