Secretary-General of the Muslim World League Delivers Opening Address at the Third International Summit of Religious Leaders in Kuala Lumpur

His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the MWL and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, delivered an opening address at the inauguration ceremony of the Third International Summit of Religious Leaders, hosted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in the presence of Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
In his remarks, H.E. underscored the responsibility of religious leaders in addressing a number of issues of concern to global peace and social harmony. He reviewed the most pressing of these issues and underscored the important role entrusted to young people, particularly in addressing the risks associated with unrestricted exposure to modern technology—especially artificial intelligence—without adequate intellectual resilience or ethical safeguards.
A key focus of the summit is the discussion of strategies to empower youth to help address the many risks associated with social media and artificial intelligence. Approximately 2,000 young participants from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds are leading efforts to help shape the future of international youth engagement based on shared principles and objectives. These efforts aim to contribute to addressing the ethical and security challenges arising from the rapid pace of technological advancement, as well as other challenges related to the concepts of extremism and violent extremism, which increasingly place young people among their primary targets.
